Description
Sherline ER-16 Collet Nut Spanner Set 3023
Collet Nut Spanner Set
Since the 1990’s, Sherline has offered an ER-16 collet spindle as an option in both the regular tool line and the industrial tool line. ER-16 collets fit directly into the spindle nose and are closed by tightening a special nut that pushes the collet into the taper, closing it. To tighten the nut, the spindle must be kept from turning. This wrench set provides tools to both keep the spindle from turning and to tighten or loosen the collet nut. Here are some simple things to keep in mind when using the wrench set.
Installation, Series 2000 Mills
The spanner wrench for the Sherline ER16 spindle is made specifically for our spindle which is assembled in our headstock. The wrench goes on one way only, and it is used in that relationship to the headstock. The Sherline 3023 ER-16 Collet nut spanner set includes two wrenches. One has a pin that engages one of the holes in the Sherline spindle to keep it from turning while the nut is tightened. The other is a hex wrench that is sized to fit the special ER-16 nut. (Nut not included.) This eliminates the need to come up with the proper size metric wrench and a Tommy bar when loosening or tightening the ER-16 collet nut. The pin tool provides a better grip in your hand and better leverage than the Tommy bar.
The tools themselves are cut from 1/4″ steel plate. They also have a tough black oxide coating to keep them from rusting.
