Description
Sherline Drive Belt 40040
Sherline Drive Belt Replacement for Lathes and Mills
This fiber-reinforced urethane drive belt is very tough and long lasting. Properly adjusted, it should last for many years of use. If you should accidentally cut one, it never hurts to have a spare on hand to save down time.
The same drive belt is used on both the lathe and mill with the DC motor.
Length: 12.9″
Width: 0.25″
Teeth: 82
The one that comes with your machine should last a long time. However, if you do need a replacement, we have them available. There is no maintenance required of the belt other than making sure it is properly tensioned. A loose, slipping belt will wear out prematurely as will one that is stretched too tight. Proper tension is just tight enough so that it does not slip under normal load. This will not only assure a long belt life, it will also have the additional advantage of providing a safety margin by allowing the belt to slip if a tool should jam in a part or an accident occur. The pulleys should also be aligned so the belt runs straight from one to the other.
Normally, the belt will run from the larger pulley on the motor to the smaller pulley on the spindle. The other position is for more power at lower RPM and requires slightly more belt tension because the smaller drive pulley is not as efficient. See the motor mounting instructions for more details on installing and tensioning the drive belt.
