3C E-Collet
Sherline’s 3C E-Collet is designed to give customers a way to make custom arbors and other part-holding fixtures. It can also be turned and threaded to create a mount for other chucks and fixtures. The 3C E-Collet is made from 12L14 steel so it can be easily machined. If you need a hardened fixture, 12L14 can be case hardened after you have machined it. This E-collet is designed to work with Sherline’s 3C headstock (P/N 30113). The headstock is sold separately.
Collets provide a quick, easy method of mounting cylindrical parts or bar stock in the lathe with a great deal of centering accuracy. Each collet is actually a small, precision 3-jaw chuck that fits into a special tapered adapter in the headstock. A drawbar that passes through the headstock and threads into the back side of the collet is used to draw the collet up into the tapered adapter. The adapter causes the jaws of the collet to close down, gripping the part to be machined.
