8mm Collet Tailstock Adapter Collet Accessory

Held in the adjustable tailstock tool holder, P/N 1203 (not included), the collet adapter allows the use of 8 mm collets in the lathe tailstock. This means you can hold extremely small drills accurately on center. Drills of only a few thousandths of an inch are easily broken if not perfectly centered. Complete instructions come with the adapter to help you “perfectly” align the headstock and tailstock of your Sherline lathe.

Purpose and Usefulness

This 8.0 mm adapter is for collets that are .314-.315 in size. When you consider the alternative is to spend thousands of dollars for a jeweler’s lathe that is far less versatile, the time is well spent. The WW collet adapter (sold separately and is part # 2085) holds Sherline WW collets that have a shank diameter of .312-.313″. If your collets are not from Sherline, measure them carefully to see which adapter you should use.

The purpose of the WW collet adapter is to allow the use of WW collets in the lathe tailstock. We decided to add this product to the accessory line based on the requests of several watchmakers. They have a need to drill very small holes with the accuracy only a collet can provide. A drill of only a few thousandths of an inch in diameter is easily broken if not perfectly centered. To accomplish this level of accuracy on a Sherline lathe, a little extra time must be spent to “perfectly” align the machine. When you consider the alternative is to spend thousands of dollars for a jeweler’s lathe that is far less versatile, we think you will find it is time well spent.
