Metric Handwheel Crosslide or Y-axis
About the Standard 1⅝” Handwheel
The 1⅝” handwheels are the standard handwheels that ship with many of our machines. They can be used on either a lathe or a mill. The 40050 (41050 metric) handwheel is intended for use on the Y-axis on a mill, or on the X-axis on a lathe; The 40080 (41040 metric) handwheel can be used on the X- and Z-axis of a mill, or the Z-axis of a lathe.
Handwheel Axis Orientation
The engraved numbers on the handwheels are oriented differently for ease of reading depending on the axis on to which they are mounted (See Figure 1). For example, if you mount a handwheel designed for the mill X axis on the mill Y-axis the numbers will appear upside down (See Figure 2).
