Sherline Steel Blank Chuck Body 3070

Steel Blank Chuck Body 2.5″ x 1-5/16″ with 3/4-16 Thread

Part way through the chuck production process, Sherline pulls a few blanks off the line and leaves them unfinished. They can be a real time-saver for the machinist who wants to make a particular piece of tooling that threads onto the spindle.

The center hole is pre drilled and the thread is 3/4-16. The hole is on the side for tightening with a Tommy Bar (Tommy Bar is not included). The blank is steel. The steel is free-machining 12L14, which is easy to turn. It will provide a good finish and you can harden if desired.

Bright Mild Steel

Bright Mild Steel has a 12L14 SAE designation.  The 12L14 steel is re-phosphorized and re-sulphurised free machining steel. This is a premium grade of free cutting steel. It is great for a wide variety of applications including repetition engineering and general machining. It has excellent machinability and is suitable to harden and electroplate. The Sherline steel blank chuck body is made of this amazing steel. As explained earlier, you can have it hardened if so desired.

Think of this part as an artist might look at a framed and pre-stretched canvas. Yes, you could build a frame, stretch and prepare the canvas yourself, but wouldn’t you rather get right to the painting? Our big machines have done the “hogging out” so you can get right to the important part of the job.

The steel blank chuck has a thread of 3/4-16 inches. It measures 2.5 inches x 1-5/16 inches.
